Virgin Media will bring its TV Anywhere catch-up service to a large number of Android devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2 and HTC One (M8) later this week.
The service, which lets Virgin Media TiVo subscribers watch shows and manage recordings on the go, is currently available on 31 devices including the Galaxy S4, Xperia Z1 and HTC One.
The cable broadband and TV provider will update the Android app, allowing more subscribers to access their favourite shows on the go.
A Virgin Media spokesperson explained that while more phones and tablets would be able to make use of Virgin TV Anywhere, the devices listed below will not be fully supported from launch.
The spokesperson said: “We are always looking at new ways to make Virgin TV Anywhere available to more customers on more devices. Later this week, the most comprehensive entertainment-anywhere service of its kind will be enabled for another 25 smartphones and tablets.

“Due to the volume of Android devices in the market, these have not gone through extensive testing to be classified as “supported”. However, if customers experience any issues they can head over to the Virgin Media Community at community.virginmedia.com.”

Currently, while 31 Android devices are fully supported, a further 24 are able to download and use the TV Anywhere app. A full list is available here.
On either Xbox, you have to have Sky Go Extra, or you won't be able to watch anything. On the Xbox 360, install the Sky TV app from the Video Marketplace. On the Xbox One, go to Xbox One apps. Virgin TV Anywhere will be available on 80 smartphones and tablets once the additional 25 are enabled this week.
In terms of supported devices, this puts it ahead of Sky Go, Sky’s mobile catch-up service which is available on over 50 iOS and Android devices.
Sky Go Through Xbox Live
Sky, Virgin Media and the BBC all have run in to delays when it comes to supporting the many Android devices out there – Sky has since developed a separate tablet app for its customers while the BBC had to employ three times as many people to work on iPlayer for Android in order to bring it up to speed with its iOS counterpart.
Currently, Virgin TV Anywhere lets subscribers access up to 68 channels on mobile devices, including ITV, CITV, Channel 5 and BT Sport.
The desktop version of Virgin TV Anywhere – available to TiVo and non-TiVo customers alike – lets you stream content from up to 91 channels on your desktop or laptop.
As well as this, Recombu also spoke to John O’Dwyer, senior manager of multi screen products for Virgin Media who said that TV Anywhere support for Xbox One has been moved further down the pipeline in favour of Android devices.
O’Dwyer said: “We’re doing a lot of work on increasing coverage of Android devices. When we launched we started very low. We’re now multiplying that and we’re exploding [onto Android] rolling out to loads more of the popular Android devices.”
When we asked about support for other mobile platforms like Windows Phone and BlackBerry, O’Dwyer said that this wasn’t on the immediate horizon.

Method 1: Close the Cisco VideoGuard Monitor process
Your Sky Go app may stop working because there’re issues with the Cisco VideoGuard Monitor process running in the background. You should try closing the process and see if this helps you fix your issue.
a) If you are on Windows:
- Press the Ctrl, Shift and Esc keys on your keyboard at the same time to open Task Manager.
- Right click the CiscoVideoGuardMonitor process and click End task/End Process.
b)If you’re using a Mac computer:

Now check to see if your Sky Go app is working properly. Hopefully it is. But if not, you may need to try other fixes listed below.
Method 2: Temporarily disable your firewall
It is also possible that your Sky Go issue results from your firewall itself. To see if that’s the problem for you, temporarily disable your firewall and check if the problem persists. (Consult the documentation of your security software for instructions on disabling it.)
If this resolves your problem, contact the vendor of your security software and ask them for advice, or install a different security solution.

Method 3: Completely reinstall your Sky Go app
When the fixes about can’t help you fix your Sky Go issue, you should reinstall this app to see if this works for you. To reinstall the app, you should uninstall the program and delete the remaining folders as well. Here’s how you can do it.
a) If you’re using Windows
- Press the Windows logo key and R on your keyboard at the same time. Then type “control” and press Enter to open Control Panel.
- Under View by, click Large icons.
- Click Programs and Features.
- Right click Cisco VideoGuard Player and click Uninstall. Then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall this program.
- Right click Sky Go and click Uninstall. Then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall this program.
- Press the Windows logo key and R on your keyboard at the same time. Then type “appdata” and press Enter to open the AppData folder.
- Go to Local > Cisco and delete the VideoGuard folder.
- Go back to the AppData folder. Then go to LocalLow > Cisco and delete the VideoGuard folder.
- Go back to the AppData folder. Then go to Roaming and delete the Sky and Sky Go folders.
- Download the Sky Go app from the official Sky website. Then open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the app.
b) If you’re on Mac
- On your desktop, click Go and click Applications.
Remove the Sky Go app.
- Go back to your desktop, then click Go and click Go to Folder.
- Type “~/library” and click Go.
- Go to Cisco, then remove the VideoGuardPlayer folder.
- Download the Sky Go app from the official Sky website. Then open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the app.
